College hockey notes: Five Falcons earn Atlantic Hockey honors
Junior defenseman Scott Mathis was named first-team all-conference to lead five Air Force players gaining Atlantic Hockey Association honors at the AHA Banquet on Thursday in Rochester, N.Y.
Senior forward Jacques Lamoureux was named second team and junior defenseman Tim Kirby was third team. Freshmen goalie Jason Torf and defenseman Adam McKenzie were named to the all-rookie team.

At St. Paul, Minn.: Bemidji State junior Shea Walters picked a good time to score his first goal of the season; 13:48 left in overtime to be exact.
BSU’s Matt Read scored 28 seconds into the third period to tie the game and force the extra period. BSU (15-17-5), which finished 10th in the WCHA during the regular season, takes on No. 2 seed Denver (23-10-5) in the 1:07 p.m. Friday semifinal.
Michigan Tech coach resigns
After a 4-30-4 season, the fewest wins for the program since World War II, Michigan Tech coach Jamie Russell has resigned, creating the third coaching vacancy in a week in college hockey, following ones at UMass-Lowell and Providence.
The Tech alumnus, hired in 2003 after a Frozen Four appearance as an assistant at Cornell, compiled a 70-197-37 record. His best season, his only winning campaign, was when the Huskies (18-17-5) reached the Final Five in 2007.
Hobey Baker finalists announced
The 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, which goes to college hockey’s top player, were announced.
They are Cam Atkinson (Boston College), Jack Connolly (Minnesota-Duluth), Carter Camper (Miami), Matt Frattin (North Dakota), Andy Miele (Miami), Gustav Nyquist (Maine), Chase Polacek (RPI), Justin Schultz (Wisconsin), Paul Thompson (New Hampshire) and Paul Zanette (Niagara).
The winner will be announced April 8. The last CC player to garner the award was Marty Sertich (2004-05), a year after his teammate Peter Sejna.
