Broncos at Redskins: Three things to watch

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

THE GAZETTE

1. Block Haynesworth

There’s a reason defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth got a $100 million contract. The Broncos have struggled to run the ball, and must block the dominant Haynesworth to run it today. Russ Hochstein replaces Ben Hamilton as Denver’s starting left guard and gets the assignment of blocking Haynesworth.

2. Who's running the ball?

Clinton Portis is out. Ladell Betts is banged up. Even with those two backs the Redskins are averaging less than 100 rushing yards per game this season. Whoever runs the ball for Washington today, the Broncos can’t fall asleep and let the Redskins get big plays.

3. Stretch the field

The Broncos don’t seem to be too worried about their lack of deep passes this season. Quarterback Kyle Orton rarely wings it downfield, but that means Denver doesn’t get many big plays. If Washington’s safeties creep up, perhaps the Broncos will take some shots.
