Falcons skate to 2-2 tie against UConn
STORRS, CONN. • A tie on the road is not supposed to be a bad result. But on Friday night, Air Force probably deserved better.
The Falcons piled up shots, 51 of them in fact. But only two got past Connecticut goalie Jeff Larson in a 2-2 tie that cost Air Force the Atlantic Hockey Association lead.
Air Force (5-5-3, 5-1-3) ran its unbeaten streak to six games, but the offensive issues of the past couple of weeks remained intact, too. And when RIT edged Sacred Heart 3-2, it dropped the Falcons into second place, a point behind the Tigers.
“We worked hard tonight,” Falcons coach Frank Serratore said. “We are having a tough time scoring goals. We are going to be in this position a lot if we continue to play well defensively, but not score goals.’’
Derrick Burnett scored the Falcons’ first goal and assisted on Jacques Lamoureux’s power-play goal in the second period, which gave Air Force a 2-1 lead. But Michael Coppola tied it for UConn (2-7-2, 2-4-2) with 6:28 left in the third period.
