Broncos notes: Bailey upholds challenges
DENVER • Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo ended Sunday’s game with consecutive challenges to Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey.
The strategy didn’t work. Bailey knocked down both passes to save Denver’s 17-10 victory.
“The guy has lots of confidence,” Bailey said, smiling as he talked about Romo. “Lots.”
Romo made no apologies for his decisions.
“The play’s designed to go there,” he said. “…The ball’s going there. You’re just trying to hope by going somewhere else. We had a one-on-one matchup.”
Romo was told Bailey had said he had “lots of confidence.”
“You know, I don’t think you can play this game and this position unless you feel as though you can do things,” Romo said.
Bailey said he was “a little” surprised by Romo’s challenges.
“If you want to keep challenging me,” he said, “I’m with it.”
Buckhalter hurt
Broncos running back Correll Buckhalter left with an injured ankle in the third quarter. That left Knowshon Moreno to carry the load, and he might get his first career start next week if Buckhalter can’t play against New England.
“Whatever they ask me to do,” Moreno said. “We don’t know how bad it is, but we’re going to keep on moving.”
Moreno had an up-and-down day. He lost a fumble and was stopped twice for no gain on third and fourth down and inches, but had 65 yards rushing and caught a touchdown pass.
