THE GAZETTE

Grab the little ones and ride the rails this summer. The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is once again offering special Cinder Bear Express children's train rides, complete with the train's own mascot - the charming Cinder Bear.

Bundle of Fun

These popular children's train trips will be offered seven times this season on Thursdays through July 30th. The season's final Cinder Bear Express will run on Sunday, Aug. 9.

It's a family adventure experience that includes a round-trip train ride from Chama, N.M., to Cumbres Pass, with lunch at Cumbres Pass, outdoor activities and a Cinder Bear souvenir. The train departs the Chama Depot at 11 a.m. and takes you and your kids on a one-hour trip up to the summit of Cumbres Pass at over 10,000 feet.

The onboard experience for kids includes the opportunity to wander through the train's antique cars, visit the Concession Car, take pictures from the Open Car, and participate in a scavenger hunt during the ride.

Once at Cumbres Pass, you'll de-board the train and enjoy an open-air lunch in the historical Cumbres Section House setting. Cinder Bear, the train's mascot, will be on hand to greet guests, and the special adventure begins - with storytelling, games, songs and more.

Make Memories

The return trip from Cumbres Pass to the Chama Station allows you to relax and revel in the special train experience aboard the historical steam train. The Cinder Bear Express train arrives back in Chama at 3 p.m.

The Cinder Bear Express is the perfect way to introduce children of all ages to the railroad experience. The abbreviated train ride, together with the picnic setting, allows kids to enjoy both the steam train experience and burn off their own "steam" at Cumbres Pass during the picnic time.
