Celebrate the New Year in 1920s style

Ring in the New Year in swinging style with a roaring good time on Curtis Street in Denver. The Curtis Hotel (a DoubleTree by Hilton) offers a “Flappers & Gangsters New Year’s Eve” package, which includes admission to a great party at The Corner Office Restaurant + Martini Bar.

This special New Year’s Eve party will feature live entertainment by The Hot Club on Pearl Street Band, swing dancing and a midnight champagne toast. You can also enjoy a dinner by Chef Will Cisa, with specials inspired by the classic luxury cuisine of the early 1900s. In addition, crafted pre-Prohibition cocktails and luscious wines will be highlighted.

Starting at $329 per night, the “Flappers & Gangsters New Year’s Eve” package includes:
• Accommodations on a pop-themed floor with one king bed or two queen beds.
• Welcome amenity with Roaring Twenties party favors.
• Admission for two adults to the New Year’s Eve party at The Corner Office, including two cocktails.
• Disco brunch for two on New Year’s Day at The Corner Office, with bottomless Bloody Marys and Mimosas.
• Valet or self-parking.

The Curtis Hotel is at 1405 Curtis St., Denver. To book your package, visit www.thecurtis.com or call 1-800-525-6651.

And don’t forget — Denver rings in the new year with a bang. Two spectacular fireworks shows will take place on New Year’s Eve, high above the 16th Street Mall, downtown Denver’s mile-long pedestrian promenade. A family-friendly show occurs at 9 p.m., followed by the traditional midnight extravaganza.

Register now for YMCA camps in Granby

YMCA of the Rockies’ Camp Chief Ouray in Granby has officially opened registration for the 2012 camp season. Campers who register before Jan. 1 will receive 2011 rates, as well as the chance to win a free week of camp.

Camp Chief Ouray hosts traditional overnight camps, shorter mini camps, Challenger Programs and three adult camps during the summer months.
Youth camps are open to children ages 7-17.

New for traditional campers this year is gaga ball — an updated version of dodge ball played in an octagonal pit, with some rules slightly modified.

Campers ages 13-15 also will have the opportunity to join a two-week Challenger Program, with activities such as a ropes course, mountain biking, ultimate Frisbee and campouts.
Away from the Camp Chief Ouray facilities, teen campers have the opportunity to explore Colorado’s backcountry via multi-day backpacking, rafting, mountaineering or pack trips known as Wilderness Adventure Camp Sherpa Trips.

Trekker Trips, also for teens, take place outside of Colorado, with campers heading to California and Utah for surf-and-turf activities, or as far away as Peru for service and cultural learning.

Camp Chief Ouray invites adult campers to participate in Family Camp, Women’s Fitness Camp and Active Older Adults Camp toward the end of summer.

Camp Chief Ouray has been hosting campers for more than 100 years. It officially joined YMCA of the Rockies and moved to its current Snow Mountain Ranch location in 1980.

To get information about Camp Chief Ouray, or to register for a camp, visit www.campchiefouray.org or call 1-970-887-2648.
